Climate Goals
To meet the “Net Zero,” Climate Goals all nations, municipalities, corporations, small businesses, and individuals alike will have to participate in a myriad of ways to achieve the goals.
MACOMA is doing its part. Our business values align with eight of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations General Assembly.
More specifically, we aim to:
1- Improve Energy Efficiency in buildings
2- Mitigate the Urban Heat Island
3- Increase the mean Global Albedo
Our products are sustainable, affordable, and easily deployable so that countries, businesses, and individuals, even with limited economic resources, can access and improve energy efficiency in the built environment and play a role in reducing global warming.
Mitigating the Urban Heat Island
Our endeavor to combat the “urban heat island” effect aligns with broader efforts to address global warming. The urban heat island effect refers to the phenomenon where urban areas experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas due to human activities such as the construction of buildings and roads, as well as the concentration of heat-absorbing materials like concrete and asphalt.
By mitigating this effect, MACOMA aims to contribute to cooling the planet and reducing the impacts of global warming. Strategies to address the urban heat island effect may include increasing green spaces and vegetation within urban areas, implementing cool roof technologies, using reflective materials for pavements and surfaces, promoting urban forestry, and enhancing natural ventilation systems in buildings.
Reducing urban heat islands helps lower city temperatures, improves air quality, enhances urban biodiversity, and creates more comfortable living environments for residents. These efforts align with broader climate change mitigation strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
Improve Energy Efficiency in Buildings
The use of our paints on rooftops and exteriors can significantly bring down a building’s surface temperature. Cooling a building’s exterior surfaces increases the comfort of the interior space, reducing the reliance on air-conditioning and thus saving energy. This also has the added benefit of cooling the surrounding area.
Increase Mean Global Albedo
Increasing the number of surfaces with high albedo would increase mean global albedo = cooler environment
